We miss out on so much in life because we grasp it all so tightly, and guard it so intensely. For added security, like a precious painting, we even lock it away out of view. We HIDE AWAY that same Beauty that gave it its value.
By doing this, WE DENY OURSELVES THE LASTING HAPPINESS OF SHARING SUCH BEAUTY WITH ALL OTHERS.
We also no longer can easily see it! We limit ourselves or others to temporary pleasures or fleeting glimpses of our prize, for we fear it being taken. With such tight grasping, clenching we have crushed its fragile beauty. That Beauty that deserves and ‘longs to be shared’ with all. In our flower analogy, we have deformed, damaged or destroyed those delicate petals. The flower is no longer perfect and whole. In the example of the precious painting, it ends up locked up in a dark vault somewhere, out of sight and gathering dust.
WE HAVE MISSED OUT ON HAVING WHAT WE REALLY WANTED.
We have missed out on appreciating what we really have. We have missed out on sharing this beauty with others. We are left just grasping the crude substance but have lost the exquisite essence of it all.
WE MISS THE BIG PICTURE IN LIFE, THE BROAD PERSPECTIVE.
Because we fully immerse ourselves in surviving, making a living and succeeding materially, we have become distracted. We have “missed the forest for the trees”.
WE DENY OURSELVES A LESS STRESSFUL EXISTENCE.
We put ourselves under so much stress and strain to succeed, to live up to our ‘own’ high expectations. But these are not our inner values. They have been socially conditioned into us, programmed from early childhood. There is a price to pay for living with like this. The chronic stress of materialistic living and living to a certain expectation wastes our energy and depletes our defenses. We first experience a feeling of un-ease or dis-ease and are then more vulnerable to dis-function, dis-order and clinical disease.
WE LESSEN THE LIKELIHOOD OF OPTIMUM HEALTH.
Not only do we compromise our physical potential in this way, we have wasted precious time in meaningless distractions and temporary pleasures.
WE HAVE MISSED SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO EXCEL.
We have avoided meaningful strategies for long term happiness.
WE HAVE LIMITED OUR FULL POTENTIAL AND OUR FULFILLMENT.
We have chosen a life of avoidance strategies and temporary pleasures. In living this way, we lessened our freedom to experience all that there is to enjoy, our full sensuality, our full creativity, our full potential.
WE HAVE REDUCED OUR OVERALL SATISFACTION AND QUALITY OF LIFE.
What is an alternative? The alternative is that we can radically change our perception and our approach to Life. This important discussion continues on the UltimateTest.org website, blog and e-book.
